Many of us wish that our lives were easier, happier, less frustrating, more satisfying, or more filled with meaning and positive experiences. Sometimes our life circumstances are out of our control. Sometimes we have the power to change our situation. Even when our external situation cannot be changed, our internal world, like our thoughts and emotions and the way we view the world is within our control. Everyone suffers to some degree whether it be from a lost job, a traumatic event, ongoing depression, or anxiety over money, the state of the world, or worry over a family member. Or maybe you’re having difficulty in your marriage or relationship or coping with postpartum depression and transitioning into life as a parent, or suffering from grief from the loss of a loved one. Life is full of these experiences. And it can be difficult to figure out what part of our experiences are within our means to change and what part we must learn to accept. Therapy is a process of discovering your own wisdom to discern how to move forward, what you can accept, and what you want to change. And often, it is through the act of accepting our circumstances for what they are that change begins to happen. But that is a scary road to go alone. Therapy is a process for not only overcoming fears, anxieties, depressions, and grief, but also of developing an uplifted and deeper relationship with oneself and as a result, with others as well. It is an honor to work with individuals seeking to create a better life for themselves.
About Me
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Colorado and have been working in the field of psychotherapy since 1995. I specialize in working with issues of depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, and life transitions including postpartum support. I received a BA in Psychology from Earlham College, a Quaker college in Richmond, Indiana. I completed an MA in Contemplative Psychotherapy from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado in 2005. I participated in the Zen Hospice Project and training at the Zen Hospice Center in San Francisco and assisted individuals with terminal illness by providing emotional and psychological support throughout the client's dying process. My clinical experience also includes a year long internship providing individual, group, and family therapy on the adult outpatient team at Mental Health Partners. I then went on to work with at-risk youth and their families in the Denver area at the Community Reach Center. I provided individual, group and family therapy in both an outpatient and school setting. I have also worked with clients through Windhorse Community Services providing psychological and emotional support to individuals in their homes. In addition, I was a teaching assistant for both the Transpersonal and Contemplative Psychotherapy Master's programs at Naropa University. Finally, I was the therapist for Moving to End Sexual Assault (MESA) and provided individual and group therapy for those recovering from sexual assault. I began my private practice in Boulder, CO in 2007.
